DESCRIPTION

was an Argentine musician, singer-songwriter, composer and record producer. He obtained international recognition for being the lead singer, guitarist and composer of the rock band Soda Stereo. He is considered one of the most important, popular and influential musicians of Latin American rock.5 6 7 8

After the dissolution of Soda Stereo, he developed a successful solo career, consisting of five studio albums and various incursions along with other musicians. His solo path began in the early nineties, as a parallel project to his official band, after a break due to a strong group crisis. In that instance Cerati published his first individual album, Amor amarillo; but when meeting Soda Stereo, his solo adventure was suspended until the band's absolute dissolution.

On his own, Cerati experimented with different styles, from electronic music (Colores Santos, Cerati and Melero, 1992) (Plan V) to symphonic music. In 2007 Soda Stereo returned on a tour called Me verás volver, after which its members resumed their activities separately. On May 15, 2010 he suffered an ischemic stroke at the Moulin Rouge club in the Sabana Grande neighborhood of Caracas, 9 which left him in a coma for more than four years and finally died on September 4, 2014 due to a respiratory arrest at the ALCLA Clinic in Buenos Aires.10

Throughout his solo career he was nominated and won numerous awards, including Grammy Latino, Konex, MTV and Gardel. On December 5, 2013, the musician was named Illustrious Citizen, a distinction granted by the Legislature of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires11 12 in recognition of his career. In its September 2012 edition, Rolling Stone magazine ranked Cerati in the No. 3 position of the 100 best national rock guitarists.
