Discovered in 1850 at Saqqara, north of the alley of sphinxes leading to the Serapeum of Saqqara, the sculpture is believed to date back to either the 5th Dynasty (c. 2450–2325 BCE) or the 4th Dynasty (2620–2500 BCE) of the Old Kingdom.
