DESCRIPTION

This is a high-fidelity 3D-printed recreation of the iconic Mask of Tragedy featured in the 1976 Classic Doctor Who serial, The Masque of Mandragora.

All the details and imperfections have been sculpted in ZBrush and have not been added in post processing.

Appearing during the Fourth Doctor’s era, this mask is the definitive symbol of the Cult of Demanos, a brotherhood in 15th-century San Martino corrupted by the Mandragora Helix, an alien energy entity seeking to plunge Earth into a new Dark Age.

In the series, these masks were worn by cultists during their clandestine rituals beneath the ducal palace. The mask served a dual purpose: it concealed the identities of the high-ranking officials within the cult and acted as a terrifying visual representation of the Helix’s influence over the Renaissance world. It represents the intersection of historical Gothic horror and cosmic science fiction that defined the Tom Baker years.

What makes this mask essential for collectors and Whovians is its unique aesthetic. Unlike the typical mechanical monsters of the series, the Mandragora mask draws from authentic Italian Masquerade and theatrical traditions. My 3D model has all the haunting, exaggerated features—the hollowed eyes and the distorted, screaming mouth—that provided some of the most chilling imagery of the 1970s. Perfect for cosplayers and prop makers.
