The movement of oil and fuels all over the world was especially important during the war. Allied and Axis armies, navies, and air forces were dependant on fuel to continue fighting and tankers were used to move the fuel all over the world. These ships were in continual use until the 1980s when super tankers became predominant and they were retired or scrapped.
