Oba Ozolua (1480 AD – 1504 AD)
Prince Okpame, the youngest son of Ewuare, became the ruler of the Kingdom of Benin in 1480 or 1483, taking the name Ozolua. His reign was marked by significant military expansion, including a successful attack on the Kingdom of Owo. He claimed to have won over 200 battles and earned the title Ozolua the Conqueror. He also sought to acquire firearms from the Portuguese to further expand his kingdom but was only offered them in exchange for a conversion to Christianity. Ozolua sent an ambassador to propose this, but the Portuguese declined, leading to limited success in their attempts to introduce Christianity to Benin.
