The object is a bronze head sculpture characterized by a large, rounded face with smooth contours and stylized facial features. The eyes are almond-shaped and slightly protruding, giving the face an alert, expressive look. The nose is broad and well-defined, while the lips are full and slightly parted, projecting outward in a calm, composed expression.
The head is adorned with a tightly patterned headdress made up of diagonal crosshatched lines that create a textured surface resembling woven or beaded material. This headdress extends down the sides of the head in long, vertical flanges that frame the face symmetrically.
The neck is cylindrical and encircled with multiple horizontal ridges, suggesting rings or layers of ornamentation. The head rests on a circular base that mirrors the neck’s ridged design, providing stability and balance to the sculpture.
The entire surface has a mottled brownish patina. This artwork reflects the Benin people’s artistry, spiritual reverence, and royal heritage, dating from around the 16th to 18th centuries.
