At Denderah, 60 kilometers north of Luxor, there is a large temple dedicated to the goddesses Hathor and Isis, the last reconstruction of which was begun in 54 BC. On the roof, six small chapels were dedicated to the god Osiris, and describe his eternal resurrection: vegetal, human and cosmic rebirth. The sandstone slab displayed here was the ceiling of one of them. It represents a night sky in which appear, among others, the constellations of the zodiac. It is an extremely important document that testifies to a thorough knowledge of the mechanisms of celestial phenomena (the march of the planets, eclipses) resulting from the research carried out by Egyptian astronomers over the centuries.
