When launched in May 2012, the Liquid Glacial collection garnered acclaim from both collectors and the press, with the table being selected by the Design Museum as one of the “best designs of 2012.” This innovative concept of an acrylic table was conceived by Giovanni Scacchi alongside Zaha, and to this day, no one else produces it. The design and production proved to be extremely challenging, requiring the creation of the table legs at a 1:1 scale and upgrading the memory of certain machinery. Metea dedicated all efforts to overcoming the project’s challenges and producing a table that seemed impossible to create in acrylic, ultimately achieving an extraordinary result.

Comprising chairs and tables crafted from Plexiglas, the collection encapsulates the tension between movement and stillness. Gentle waves and ripples flow beneath the table’s flat surface, while the legs cascade from the horizontal into a dramatic vortex of water seemingly frozen in time. All elements are meticulously milled and polished by hand to create an immaculate finish.

The transparency acrylic emulates the process of glacier melting, adding depth and complexity through a kaleidoscopic display of light and endless refractions. The result is a stunning object that inherits a myriad of colors from its surrounding environment and continuously adapts to ever-changing perspectives.
