A large and rare neoclassical fireplace in soft, honey-coloured sandstone. In the manner of William Kent and therefore Palladian, this grand fireplace has a thick mantelpiece with carved egg and dart motif and an exquisitely carved foliated lower mantel. Both mantels rest on a superbly carved half-column frieze with acanthus paterae carved in a cross hatch pattern, with a blank plaque in the centre. The half-pilasters with Ionic capitals are decorated with bead and spool carving and frame flat cross corner insets decorated with egg and dart motifs and leaf and dart mouldings. The model is assembled for subdivision.
