Ubald Klug created one of the icons for de Sede: better known as “Terrazza,” in which, depending on the arrangement, multiple sofas can be combined to form either a mountain or a valley of upholstered leather. Permeating the work by this Zurich-born ar- chitect and designer who has lived in Paris since 1966 and once also worked as a sculptor, is the con- stant search and fresh discovery of appearances.This is also how DS-800 cameinto being for de Sede in the 1970s: a modular seating group with consummate functionality and tremendous aesthetics: a cre- ative response to our need to relax and a statement of home decor,that has now been redesigned to combine geometric motifs with ornamental references.
