OVERVIEW

This 3D model reproduces the main building of the Former Glover House, constructed in 1863 in Nagasaki, Japan.

Designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan and recognized as part of a UNESCO World Heritage site, it is the oldest surviving Western-style wooden building in Japan. This residence is a landmark architectural achievement representing a rare fusion of British colonial bungalow design and traditional Japanese craftsmanship during the late Edo period (19th century).

ARCHITECTURAL & HISTORICAL CONTEXT

Built for Scottish merchant Thomas Blake Glover, the building features a unique clover-shaped roofline and spacious arched verandahs typical of Asian colonial style.

One of the most fascinating aspects of this building is its hybrid construction. While the overall structure follows a Western layout, it is covered with traditional Japanese clay roof tiles (kawara). The roof design reflects the ingenious efforts and challenges of 19th-century Japanese master carpenters, who had to adapt traditional Japanese tiling techniques onto an unfamiliar Western roof frame for the first time.

1. MAIN BUILDING ONLY : This package includes the main residence (主屋) only. The annex building (kitchen and toilet block) historically located behind the main house is NOT included.
2. STRUCTURAL ARCHITECTURE ONLY (NO FURNITURE/DECOR) : The model replicates the exterior and interior architectural structure. Interior furniture, decorations, and props are NOT included (this includes the famous large mirror above the guest room fireplace, tables, chairs, etc.).
3. CUSTOMIZABLE : The unfurnished interior allows you to freely add your own assets, furniture, or props to match your project's needs.
