It does not arrive where the fighting is heaviest. It arrives where the numbers require it.
The Crescent Reaper Lord operates on a probability calculus so deep and so old that no other intelligence in the dynasty fully comprehends its methodology - including the Overlords who nominally command it. What is understood is the outcome: that engagements where it intervenes resolve in the dynasty's favour at a rate that defies conventional military analysis. What is less comfortable to understand is how.
It phases into a combat zone without warning, kills a target that appears - by every observable metric - completely irrelevant to the engagement, and phases out. A lone infantry conscript on the far flank. An enemy commander's adjutant rather than the commander. Occasionally, a Necrocyborg warrior mid-advance, one of its own, removed with the same unhurried precision as any enemy. There is no visible logic. There is no tactical explanation that satisfies. The battle continues. Three minutes later, four hours later, sometimes two engagements later - the reason becomes apparent, in the way an equation becomes apparent when the last variable finally resolves. That conscript would have been in a specific position at a specific moment. That adjutant carried information that would have changed a decision. That Necrocyborg warrior, left alive, would have been the variable that shifted probability out of alignment.
Its own forces have learned not to react when it appears among them. The first dynasty commanders who attempted to countermand its target selections did not survive long enough to observe whether their interventions improved outcomes. That data point has propagated through the command hierarchy efficiently. Now it moves through Necrocyborg lines unopposed, blades already moving before the phase-translation completes, gone before the target has finished falling.
Enemy forces find it maddening in a way that conventional threats are not. A threat you can locate can be avoided, suppressed, countered. The Crescent Reaper Lord offers none of those options. It is simply present, then not present, and something that was alive is no longer alive, and the battle is slightly more lost than it was before - and no one can explain exactly why, or where it will appear next, or which of them has already been selected.
The probability field shifts. The dynasty advances.
