As the Jinchuriki of the Nine Tailed Fox Kurama, Naruto has access to massive reserves of exceptionally powerful chakra, which was at least a hundredfold greater than Kakashi's. Due to his Uzumaki lineage and being Kurama's jinchūriki for essentially his entire life, Naruto's chakra had become naturally compatible with the fox's, allowing him to perform several chakra-taxing techniques unhindered. Originally, he could only access Kurama's chakra in times of great anger, causing transformations in his body. with the initial transformation turning his eyes red and slitted like Kurama's and as he drew on more chakra, what was best described as a fox shaped shroud of red chakra would form over his body complete with various tails. It enhanced Naruto's abilities further with each tail, but with each tail the fox's negative influence also made Naruto more aggressive and controllable by the nine tailed fox until taking full control at 4 tails. At 4 tails he enters a Version 2 state where the shroud mixes with his own blood and is stained, completely obscuring his body while at 6 tails Fox Bones would form across his body. Initially during his training with Jiraiya Naruto was mentioned to have originally had control up to 3 tails but following his first four tailed transformation, his control of the lesser forms lessoned and would quickly progress to four tails if not stopped by either Yamato's wood style or special seals made by Jiraiya.
