Something Easy

Discussion started by danmichsr

I've had my 3018-Pro for a few months and just doing text with a v-bit and it's working great. I'd like to buy some of these designs and try them out but not sure the way to do so. I'm looking for information on the procedure to download one of them and see if I can carve it. All I have been using is Easel and Candle. Have downloaded Carbide trying to learn that.

Can anyone out there tell me what to expect once I pay for a design. Is it Zip and if so what program will load it and cut it.

You have to be sure you're looking at the right type of models. Only 3d printable models will be of any use to you, and of those, only the models that can be used on a CNC router will work for what you are doing. Almost all 3d printable models are available as .STL files. The first thing you need to do is find out what kind of file formats Carbide 3D will import and what it requires. Then you'll have to be sure any model you purchase from here will be capable of working with a router. Some files will be downloadable as ZIP files, but some are just .STL or .OBJ. It depends on how the author packaged the files, etc. On the right-hand side of each model profile, you should see the file formats that are available with that model. STL, OBJ, and sometimes FBX are the most common for 3d printable models. Just keep in mind that not all 3d printable models will be useful for a CNC router. You are going to have a limited choice.
