Conversion problem from max (Corona) to fbx and obg

Discussion started by mary-v

Hello everyone! I am new on the CGTrader and I faced a conversion problem. For my workflow, I usually use 3DsMax + Corona (including Corona materials). But during conversion to .obj and .fbx Corona, materials don't convert properly.

So, currently, I use standard Physical Materials (they are converting without problems) but they are less convenient than Corona's ones.

My question is the following: If you are using a similar combination how do you solve this problem? What is your approach here?

Corona is only available for Max and C4D, but Max and C4D users would not use .fbx or .obj instead of the native format of their application.
So the only people wanting to use .fbx and .obj are people who don't have Max or C4D, in which case they are gonna use a different render engine and different engines have different material descriptions. Why would they need Corona materials that they would not be able to use anyway?

I'm in the same position - working with 3ds Max and Corona, struggling to convert nice Corona materials to exchange formats. My solution is to manually convert Corona materials to greatly simplified 3ds Max physical materials and export to FBX. When publishing the models, i clearly write in the description, that exchange formats have only basic materials and they will not look the same as in preview images, so the customers could have realistic expectations. It works ok for me - i have no complaints about this from the customers so far. As alternative, you can prepare your models for PBR standard - it requires more work from you, but makes the model more versatile and more valuable and usually there's no issues with conversion.
