By the way ArtStation also has tiered pricing with different licensing.
Hi,
I want to hear some opinions on two still kind of rough ideas, which can be developed and refined with your help:
1. Tiered pricing
1.1. What is this?
1.2. Why?
2. Additional licenses for number of uses
Now I have to mention that my overall impression is that an extreme amount of models on CGTrader have insanely low prices, so when I mention above low prices, I don't mean these should have even lower prices for indies, NO.
$10 for complex interior scene is a beggar level price already and I'm sure a big company wouldn't mind at all to pay 10x, or even 20x that price (I'm sure the seller wouldn't mind the royalties too).
So, tell me what you think? Suggestions, doubts, changes, improvements, all is welcome?
Lets refine this and the relevant CGT staff may join and tell how this can (or maybe why can not) be implemented.
By the way ArtStation also has tiered pricing with different licensing.
I checked out this cubebrush site, it really looks very promising and easy to work with. I like the screening process at the beginning and the additional licenses.
I think the main thing current 3D marketplaces are getting wrong is concentrating on attracting customers with low prices, while the most important thing for that is actually building trust - that happens mainly with quality control and strict policy against fraudulent accounts.
It's really not that hard to do.
It's nice to hear things are starting to develop. It's logical to go in that direction, because price slashing is a dead end and hurts everyone.
I recently checked some stock photo sites and my impressions are they are light years ahead 3D markets in terms of UI, copyright protection and licenses.
CGT is a bit closer at least in terms of UI, TS is in the stone ages there, but overall 3D Markets are still like the wild west.
It looks that at least some marketplaces are thinking the same as you do - cubebrush just introduced studio license for certain types of products. Nevertheless, i don't think that could happen in cgtrader - they are locked in mortal combat with turbosquid and neither will do anything that potentially could detract enterprise clients.
I think this will be implemented sooner or later and the first one who does, will get advantage over competition.
The way I see it, it looks like CGT is in better position, mainly for 2 reasons:
1. They have better devs who can develop and implement that fast.
2. The majority of corporate customers are oriented towards TS anyway, because the important thing for them is the quality, not the price.
+ Considering the current average price levels here I don't think that will scare any current customers.
Just an example:
If I have a company and have to make interior scene from scratch it will take for someone in my team ... this can vary a lot, but lets say something below average like 15 hours - let's also pick an below average rate like $15 per hour - so the cost for me will be $225.
If I buy it here for $20 I just saved $205 and 15 hours which my team can use to work on other projects.
Will I care if I have to pay $40 - hell no - I still save $185 and 15 hours.
Will I care if I have to pay $100 - no - I still save $125 and 15 hours.
You get my point.
I don't think there's a slightest chance that cgtrader would implement your proposed tiered pricing. That would be suicidal move, because they'd loose majority of their corporate clients to other marketplaces.
As for multiple licenses, that change is needed and has been requested many times, sadly without any notice from cgtrader at all.
