Blender add-on

Discussion started by iosifidis90

Hello.

I m a blender user, and I publish some of my models here. I thought that cgtrader could create a blender add-on with the following features

1) upload the selected model/ collection all the forms that blender can export (fbx, use, obj etc) by packing all the textures

That is to save some time for the user and be sure that all the textures are included

2) count the polygons, vertices etc (that is to make sure that the publisher (user) is verified to have the right amount written

3) have a 3d presentation of the uploaded model, like the marmoset view. Many pages like scetchfab have similar features for their assets

4) you can also suggest some camera shots on a preset background (HDRI) because not everyone is good at product placement.

Thx for your time

1) you can upload it how you prefer, I would also provide textures separately as well as packed so they are able to apply these correctly to fbx/obj as they see fit for their software
2) agree that would be a useful feature
3) you can upload a marmoset file if you prefer. Others dont because the models can be ripped/stolen from marmoset viewer.
4) thats very subjective, also probably a lot more work to create a consistent studio environment for every software package on cgtraders behalf (and keep updated) so doubtful that would happen.

As I said, I already upload, and for sure I have never put a wrong number on polygon count, neither at any other box, but if that had the "signature" of the cgtrader, a potential buyer would feel more secure. Also a 3D view is something kinda everywhere, even on Facebook, so as we upload 3D format assets, I guess it's easy to be made

Auto export/conversion to fbx/obj doesnt make sense since you have different export options for different purposes, Y Up, Z Forward, Polygroups, Vertex order etc. Some software requires Z Up Y forward instead and this puts the onus on cgtrader which they would prefer on you. Mind you I do like your ideas just trying to be realistic. I think there are so many bugs that need fixing first which dont ever seem to get fixed this would be my priority before adding new features that potentially break things - looking at you new TS Publisher, for those in the know.
