It's a long-standing argument what should be and should not be allowed.

Well, for some models the texture is the feature. I offer some alien planets. The model is just a sphere every time, but the textures differ of course. There are a lot of models where the texture is the most important part. Ok, if the model is more complex, a customer should have the possibility to just purchase an additional texture seperatly and for a lower price, not the whole thing again. On the other hand, especially beginners want to create a lot of content quickly. The reputation points system just works that way. Every new model upload leads to more points.
Maybe in the future there is a way cgtrader can check if a particular model belongs to that category.

I can´t agreed with that. On one hand, you say: A mesh done in 2 minutes, mapped in 2 hours... textured in 2 days. On another hand, you say: "a customer should have the possibility to just purchase an additional texture seperatly and for a lower price" So... what about your " for some models the texture is the feature" ??? What about liveries that are truly complicated and deserve its prices? Do you actually know what a texture artist costs per hour? Do you actually know how much time a custom texture (also those complex) takes ? Do you actually know what a custom livery costs on the market? Do you actually know what a custom

Relatedly, I wish there was a way to have different variants of a model in general. Most of my models are spacecraft and rockets, and I often make the initial models early in the development process of the real vehicles, and then update the model as the real design changes. But there are customers who have an interest in the older iterations still, but I don't really want separate pages for each version because I expect that'll mess up search rankings, and I don't want it all jammed into one set of downloads because its confusing to a buyer. It would be useful to be able to do, say, a "Space Launch System" page, and then be able to select like "SLS as originally designed", "SLS with Pyrios boosters", "SLS as actually flown", etc

What about flight simulators and all the different liveries? Lufthansa, Qatar Airways, Delta Airlines, Swiss, LOT, Iberia etc etc.
Who do you think who will create those time consuming textures for "1" aircraft model ???? a ghost?
There is a business for that, since hiring a texturer the price for a livery can go into xxx, here you pay just xx.
And that as example should explain why there are so many, time consuming worked out, elaborated,
and often truly complicated to create, liveries, texture sets and maps for one 3d model.
I guess you are very unexperienced in the industry, that´s why you are complaining.

There is a market for everything, even specific textures and liveries for vehicles have it's place. Some people aren't willing to pay a full pack of texture in a collection where they may only need to use 10% of. They can just buy one or two for a much lesser price.

The option to add a sub category to ur sale with different "DLC/addons/skins.." would be cool. So one could buy the model, and then have access to buy cheaper variants of textures - without them having to be a separate sale, or the whole model over again.

RenderHub has it already. Another question is if you want to offer skins / liveries for a low budget price, which took like 2 days to master. Creating textures is a time-consuming afford. Many 3d meshes are done in minutes.

I also would like addition of sub categories for a better sort. @CGAamp I talk about where the models have just another skin color, or the models are so simple, that they are created by an action script of PS. See the newest sort of low poly flash sale, in shop currently, there are 5 helicopter. If you scroll a bit down you see another 20 of the models. And that just sucks!

"Another color" is not "texture", it is just "another color". It would be SICK to offer the same mesh with red, white and blue color for the same price seperately. I also on another hand have more than 20 "helicopters", but each texture --- more precise "livery" took more than 1,5 days. I simply could not afford to offer 20+ liveries with the helicoper for the price of 1 livery with the helicopter. I guess it is completely clear. However, I saw already another helicopters that suit the issue you describe. But that applies also to another vehicals on ALL marketplaces, but also to characters. There are char variations offered with different "hair colors", same mesh, just 5 seconds changed RGB color within the base texture. But all in all, we have to make a difference between changing the RGB color withing the base map, and creating a completely different livery for a base texture. The difference is like hell and heaven. So let us be cautious, if we use the term "texture", and rathe let us call it by name; "just a changed RGB color within the texture, and that 1000x times, offered as --seperate asset---" would fit better.
