The Best Texture Optimisation For Games

Discussion started by LowPolyLand

All games use : diffuse , specular and normal maps in there assets , but now we have seen a growth in use of specular+glossiness (PBR) and that results in a far more better visual quality, now that is said, i noticed even big AAA games like assassins creed syndicate , batman arkham knight and even the witcher 3 did only use 3 map : diffuse , specular and normal

so what do you think about a developement of a next gen game using diffuse specular+glossiness+ normal ( PBR ) is it a bad idea ? will it affect the game performance ?

well depends on how much the game can handle . to optimise a map you can place this photoshop . when developing a game does it affect the speed fps , does it affect the gameplay . Games still cant use same amount of polygons as films . you can see normal maps are still used to decrease the polygon count . why use 100 polygons when the same may be achieved with normal map
