Special License Question, one still open for me after reading the Rules

Discussion started by starman001

Hello Community,

I got here due to recommandation of a modelling colleague, and I would like to sell a few of my models here in the upcoming months (will take a while though to finish the first).

After reading the license agreement a few times most things are clear to me, even if understanding is not always easy. I even have problems with law-texts in my own language, not to mention a non-native one :)

One special question that applies to my plans is still a bit open, and I hope you can clarify that for me.

I'm at the start of creating my very own indie game. For that I will use models that I have done by myself from scratch.

I understand that when I sell under the general license (as stated in paragraph 21ff) I will continue to stay the copyright owner (until I specially trade that too). Buyers are allowed to use my models "incorporated", but non-exclusive, so other buyers can use them too. All fine to me

Now, the question :

What about me ? Am I violating any rule, when I sell my models here to the mentioned rules, AND also use it in my own COMMERCIAL game project ? Most likely, I will also incorporated them according to the rules, though I plan to make the rest of the game modding-open besides that.

I'm aware of the "special license agrement" that I seem to be able to make in the sales window of the product. When I state there, "that the buyer agrees, that the object in question will still be used in a commercial project by my own" ( of course with better words ;) ), is this enough to keep me safe from possible law suits ?

Thanks for claryfing.

Hi all,
So I have a similar question. If I purchase a software "model", can I make a 3D print of it and sell it?

Hi eduardas,

thank you for your answer, I really appreciate that... Also, the answer is a big relief for me too :) Then I can follow this way, maybe I have luck and can sell a few models from time to time :)

Cheers

Hello Starman,

In short:
1. "Am I violating any rule, when I sell my models here to the mentioned rules, AND also use it in my own COMMERCIAL game project ?" - Nope, you are not.
2."Is this enough to keep me safe from possible law suits ?" - Yup, it is. :)

It's your model, which means you're able to do anything with it, as you please, (at least according to our "rule book"). Licenses are meant to be dedicated for the buyers - if you have nothing against seeing your models in other games, then General License is a good way to go.
