3ds Max Sci-Fi Robot and V-Ray lights

Discussion started by JimPlatt

After some advice pls. I've model a Sci-fi Robot in 3ds Max and textured it in Substance Painter. I will render it back in Max with V-Ray using exported maps from Substance. The robots has a glass dome with lots of flashing lights and things inside. I've exported an emissive map from Substance which goes in the Self-Illumination slot. The multiplier on the Self-Illumination slot seems to make no difference. Need to make the Emissive/lights pop but for now looks very flat! Any advice on better work flow would be welcome!

  1. Would it be better to use lots of small V-Ray lights inside the Robots lights on the model?

  2. Assign a V-Ray light material to the Robots lights instead of the Emissive/Self-Illuminmation map?

Any suggestions would be very useful.

Thx in advance.
