Criterions of Game Ready Models

Hi,

I would like to ask what criterions have to be a model if I want send as "game ready"
I made a shine weapon for fantasy weapon challenge is it have to send baked material or I can send with typical texturing?
Because I was very happy when I can baking correctly at first time but it hasn't realy good shine or reflection
And I use difrent parts normal maps what are lost in baking and some parts looks lame after baking
And how much poly is an average weapon?
I know the low poly here is 50k poly but I watch the dota2 condition and ther is a weapon maximum 600 polygons
So 10 thousand poly unbaked model is acceptable?

Hi,

We usually approve a model as low poly when it is modeled in as few polygons as possible and its details are depicted in the textures. So only details and ambient occlusion or GI should be baked into the diffuse channel.

50K is a maximum limit. Poly count depends on what kind of model and level of details it is. If you are modeling a simple looking axe then 1000 polys is a lot.

Hi

If I'm looking for low poly models, I try to use models with much less than 50k poly. Usually I allow characters to have 10k to 20k polys and any other 3D-model in the game less, according to it's importance/visibility in the game. If you try to target mobile low poly market (or probably also VR), then you should go even lower in polycount. As a general rule just try to make it look best with the least amount of polygons and work a lot with good texturing. As for materials / textures, I try to have simple materials and therefore only use a diffuse texture unless there is a very good reason to use an additional material.

So to answer your question if a 10k poly weapon is ok:
- For a computer / console single player game, e.g. an RPG, FPS or fighting game - sure
- In a computer / console real-time strategy game and every unit will be carrying it - no
- In an MMORPG - probably also rather no
- Mobile device - no
- VR - not sure, I don't have enough experience in that field yet, but I would go for the lesser the better.

barb wire fence is only a 4 sided plane cant get much lower

angela the model is 4 sided plane . 8 sided cylinder for the pipes of the fence you can remove the bottoms if you wish to reduce the poly count . that the fence without the barb wire. it very low poly game ready see the likes on my account

Thank you for the question irgum76.

A criterion could be to fit all the model in one texture only, as oposed to a 'render'model with several textures.

You can even think of a complete game level, with props and modular walls, that would share only one texture. It would make it more 'game ready' in my opinion.
