3D Challenge: Abstract Elements Questions

Discussion started by jurgacgtrader

Hey everyone!

As of today, we launched a new 3D Challenge: Abstract Elements!

As you can already tell from the name of the challenge, we are looking for high quality, realistic models of various shapes and forms found in nature, graphic design or thought-of by people. Create a flame, cloud or smoke. Design a top-facing 3D flower, an ornate leave or create an ornamental work like filigree. Make a decorative frame for use in a surrealistically designed composition, a water splash or a crystal. Turn a plain geometric shape into a decorative piece of art or shatter glass, creating a pattern of fractured shards.

The theme of the competition is rather broad and many different objects could qualify, but similar to Designer Schwag and Sports & Hobbies challenges, the technical requirements are pretty specific and should be carefully taken into consideration. These models are intended to work well with the Adobe Dimension CC app, formerly known as Project Felix, and for use in the Adobe Stock 3D collection. To be eligible for this challenge, it is important to review the technical requirements. You can do it in the terms&conditions section, where you can also find some ideas for your work. Also, do not forget to check the do's and don'ts and FAQ sections.

HOWEVER, if you have a question about the challenge and you did not find the answer to it in any of the mentioned places (terms&conditions, do's and don'ts, FAQ sections), this is the place to ask the questions and get answers!

Thank you.

Hi lance-lott, all of the models listed have passed the initial technical review and we are now waiting for the confirmations they passed 2nd stage technical review. They will appear as entries as soon as we hear back about that.

Hello!
I saw in the section JUDGING in the contest PBR Challenge: Interior Design I understand correctly if I lay out one or two models then I can not participate in the contest?
since at least three models or three portfolios are needed

ginvile wrote

Hi, if you upload one or two models, these can participate and compete for individual modle prizes, if you add more models (3 or more), these all models individually compete for Best Model prize, but collectively they also get to be evaluated for overall portfolio. Please, take a look at the winner announcement of one of our previous challenge, and hope this explains: https://www.cgtrader.com/blog/the-jury-has-voted-we-now-have-sports-hobbies-challenge-winners-2017-12

https://www.cgtrader.com/3d-models/various/various-models/blue-crystal-67719b2b-258a-4bef-9f0e-adc4248809cc - this is blue crystal. I check my archives (scene, OBJ) and model on top of the origin. And when i got first mail, i change model position in every models.
https://www.cgtrader.com/3d-models/various/various-models/red-crystal-530f504e-b1a4-4cf6-b472-dec9bcb20ce3
https://www.cgtrader.com/3d-models/various/various-models/green-crystal-66297110-7400-4237-b4ad-d08563f21786
it's another crystals (with color ramps and falloffs in material slots).

And if I remove every procedural maps (gradient ramp and falloff) I will not be able to achieve the same appearance in the model of crystals. I will not be able to bake falloff map, which depends on the camera's position and geometry.

Hello, https://www.cgtrader.com/challenges/3d-challenge-abstract-elements#section-terms I read rules and not find any conditions about "no procedural materials".
It's not PBR challenge or i'm confusing something. And I change archives with model, i sit model on top of the origin already. I upload corrected model already. But i got a letter with this condition. Why? I need to delete all the archives when upload?

Hey, I try using the chat and email to get in contacts about my model. been almost three weeks. multiples follow up about my model not being approved ( which i got from a vague reply from the chat window) and zero response . Im just upset that after spending personal time on a project for your site and get left in the dark. Seem like here is the only place that get response because is more public?

Hello! Excuse me, please tell me why the quality of my work has deteriorated significantly, in terms of quality and saturation of the image, after the publication, the tree does not look the same as on my computer (even pixelization is visible, everything is very strange! With the fact that I posted an image in size - 2500 x 1406 pixels. Tell me please, can this be somehow corrected or at least possible to bring the photo closer?) It looks all just awful ((( Thank you for your understanding! https://www.cgtrader.com/gallery/project/tree

Hi, Thanks for noting, we are taking look at this. Typically, the compression is 80%, so your image should display way better. We have also noticed that sometimes black objects in black background seem to be shown worse than any other renders, but we hope this can be improved soon.

Hello, I already asked, but they have not answered me yet. Why some models do not display the size of the archive with 3D Max (.max) files. There is a dash. Example: https://www.cgtrader.com/3d-models/various/various-models/map-compass In section available formats: 3D Studio Max 2010 (.max) (2 files) and instead of size there is just dash. And some other my models (participating in the challenge and not) have no info about size of archives. Maybe I did not upload something correctly.

ginvile wrote
ginvile
Hi, sorry we missed the question. Yes, our system does not summ the size of individual files within zip, so this is not displayed, but as for the challenge you should not worry. As we are going through every asset, so if something is missing we would notify you personally.

Hello, how long the models are tested for compliance with the requirements. And from what time will the vote be held?
None of my models have yet been displayed in the section "entries".

ginvile wrote
ginvile
Hi, don't worry just yet. The review and approval of assets is a 2-step process. We have performed initial review: we are thus passing part of the assets to 2nd stage review and feedback has been sent to designers about the rest. The voting only will start after the 2nd stage and along the process we are accepting reviewed assets with technical issues based on initial feedback fixed. If you want drop us an email at challenges@cgtarder.com with assets of interest and we will tell precisely at which stage your models are. Hope this helps, and thanks for the patience. Hi, as we have just closed the challenge and will now need to go through detailed technical review of all submissions, this might take a while, but hope to have the winners mid-Feb.

Two more questions,
-Can two identical or symmetrical meshes have overlaping uvs?
-If the object is symmetrical; front and back, can I just keep those uvs overlapped?

ViliusJ-CGT wrote
ViliusJ-CGT
Hi Naek, no, uvs shouldn't be over-lapping in both cases. Goal is the ability to draw a unique texture on every face.

Hi Guys,
I don't understand the single-subject well enough. Is a vehicle a single-subject model? tires, chasis, hood as separate meshes. Can an object made up of separate meshes be single-subject?
Thank you

ViliusJ-CGT wrote
ViliusJ-CGT
Is a vehicle a single-subject model? -Yes, you don't need to over-think it. The idea is that there shouldn't be a collection of objects in the scene, e.g. the whole room with chairs and table and other items, or whole gym with its equipment. Can an object made up of separate meshes be single-subject? -Yes

You can put what ever you want on background but your submission must contain only the model.

Hello everybody!
Can you please tell me if I can insert a black background in the scene and not white as usual light background?

I also forgot to ask if you can use the same model for both the portfolio and 3d model to participate in the contest?

The portfolio is based on all the models you submit for the challenge, the model award is based on individual models.

can we use fumefx?but its not made from poly its made from particle right?

ginvile wrote

As noted in an answer above, you can use fumefx with a condition that you'll convert the particles to polygonal geometry.

It says the standard maya files are accepted, ma/mb. What about Maya LT users? Can we not provide FBX/Obj? Maya LT does not read nor create ma/mb files.

formform wrote

you can add fbx/obj/3ds what ever you want but the native format must be 3ds max vray or maya vray render.

Hi.
In terms of style are you aiming for something realistic or something graphic/cartoony? Is it open for interpretation?
Is only the category abstract or should the design also be?
Thanks.

ginvile wrote
ginvile
Hi, not sure how your question was overlooked, buthope this helps. We are looking for more realistic models - abstract defines the category. Best, Gina

You should try using fumefx to generate desired effect and then convert it to polygon mesh. Hope this helps ;)
