Challenges
VR Animals Challenge
Summer is a good time to enjoy nature. As you may have noticed, we're big fans of wildlife - and to celebrate the Mother nature (because, why not?), we're launching a new VR Animals Challenge.
We're teaming up with 3D Artist who will give away two 6-month subscriptions and publish interviews on their site for the lucky winners, Freefly VR, the compatible VR mobile headset makers who'll award every winner with their product and Pixplant - texturing guru's app to get your work done in no time.
This is a low-poly challenge, which means your designed little kitten (or a dinosaur, whichever you may prefer) should not be weigh more than 50,000 polygons. The contest winners will be announced at the end of August - time to bring your skills and animals into Virtual Reality!
First Model Challenge - July
July - it's hot, it's the best time of the summer and a good time to enter the good old competition with your fellow 3D designers!
We're keeping the show going - approaching the mid-summer, CGTrader has teamed-up with SolidRocks to bring in a renewed First Model competition for all the 3D modelers and enthusiasts out there! All you have to do is upload your first 3D model to our platform and there's a chance you'll bring home a SolidRocks license for your 3ds max or Cinema4D.
Put your modeling gloves on and show us what you've got!
VR Space Challenge
There's been that little dream in everyone's head - at some point in your life, you have thought about going into space (never mind all the hard training and the experience your body and mind would have to go through). And there's always a kid inside each one of us who would still love that - well, getting into VR Space Challenge is the next best thing!
Your limits are very few. Apart from being a low-poly model (up to 50,000 polygons), all you have to do is figure a space station, a shuttle, a new planet, an astronaut costume or anything else you can relate to space.
We're big fans of sci-fi here, so for all your troubles, we're teaming up with Pixplant, iCube and FoxRenderfarm to have the great imagination paid for its good work. Onto VR we go!
First Model Challenge - June
Ahh, the summer.. What better time to start modeling? *Insert any other time of the year* - yes, yes - we know, it's always a good time to start doing some wicked digital art.
The rules are the same - your first model uploaded on CGTrader is an entry for the challenge.
We're partnering 3D-Coat who are handing out Professional licenses for the top 3 contestants. Let the 3D modeling summer begin!
First Model Challenge - May
First Model Challenge lives on! Here's the drill: you upload your first model on CGTrader, and you're an entry for the challenge. Sounds simple, right?
Our friends at Motiva CG are giving away a few gifts for the three lucky winners and we'll throw in a few free sales to help our newcomers to start their business in our community.
Time to show who can bring the best first model to CGT this month.
Fantasy Game Weapon Challenge
It's interesting how different aspects of a game have so much effect on experience and emotions. Let's take weapons, for example. When a character draws his massive sword engraved with golden and crystal ornaments and swings it with all his might so that fire particles spread through the air making enemies tremble in fear, for most of us, the first thought would be "I want that sword". So here is the challenge to get it - Fantasy Game Weapons Challenge!
Here are some ground rules:
Winners will be chosen for the Best Melee Weapon and Best Ranged Weapon models - each category will have a winner and a runner-up. Models must be Low Poly (Up to 50,000 Polygons). There will be two winners for the Best Weapon Portfolio as well.
Design rules are simple: models should be designed as fantasy game weapons, in other words - non-traditional, magical or defying physics. Melee weapons can range from ancient type pikes or swords to a more futuristic like Energy Blades or Plasma Swords. Ranged weapons have the same freedom: from bows that can spawn energy arrows to guns that can shoot porcelain gnomes. Mage staffs are also viable and will be counted as ranged weapons.
Our sponsors will have some rewards for completing our quest: subscriptions from Textures.com, licenses from VD-3D, licenses from Cheetah3D,
Subscriptions from GameTextures.com, Gift Cards from Daz3D, products from Nevercenter and render fees from GarageFarm.NET.
For you, as modern smiths, the quest is to "forge" the best weapons to fight the forces of evil. The Empire trusts you and wishes you good luck in your endeavor!
