Client: Xootr Australia & New Zealand

I did not need to do anything. No photoshoots, not sending the scooters to anyone - nothing. Everything they needed, CGTrader downloaded from our website: they used the store’s product images to make their 3D models”
- Charlie Mills-Mateer, Managing Director at Xootr Australia & New Zealand.

Key points:

  • Augmented Reality (AR) was easy to implement as CGTrader were able to capture all the source material needed for 3D modelling on the existing company’s website.
  • AR delivered business value in terms of both reducing costs of item presentations and enhancing promotional marketing efforts.
  • Presenting items in AR helps the brand to stay up-to-date and attractive to customers.

Xootr Australia & New Zealand is an official distributor of Xootr LLC U.S.A and is run by a long time Xootr owner and a huge fan of the brand products, Charlie Mills-Mateer: Read the full story:

“Xootrs are premium priced scooters. I believe our customers deserve a premium experience as if you bought a Porsche or a Ferrari, and I want them to be very happy with their purchase and become fans of the brand”.

After taking over the business only 6 months ago , Charlie was looking for a competitive edge in order to promote the Xootr brand in Australia and to generate sales. Having his ecommerce store based on the Shopify platform, Charlie turned to Shopify Experts, and CGTrader was his first choice.

“I chose CGTrader for my AR work because they were recommended by Shopify. My experience working with them was very pleasant. Having worked in radio most of my life I expect things to move quickly as radio is live 24/7 (well, so is the internet!). CGTrader made immediate contact, came back with a great quote and finished the job in a couple of weeks.

I did not need to do anything. No photoshoots, not sending the scooters to anyone - nothing. Everything they needed CGTrader downloaded from our website: they used the store’s product images to make their 3D models”.

Soon after the 3D models of Xootr scooters had been placed on his store, Charlie recorded the highest monthly sales. Having 60% of his customers shopping via mobile he notes the value of AR:

“We only sell the scooters online. Having the ability to view them in 3D and AR is a fantastic asset: although our customers cannot physically touch the scooters, they are able to load the model wherever they are and examine them by walking around them. This technology is a great way to get people to take another look, and it keeps the brand more modern”.

Invoking AR in ecommerce has also helped Xootr Australia & New Zealand to enhance their marketing efforts, especially on social media, and to save on costs:

“AR was an essential investment for us. At first we did not know where to start, and envisioned expensive photoshoots or visual effects. But all it took was to put out a call to Shopify Experts, and CGTrader came back to me.

Originally I was only going to invest in one 3D model of a Xootr scooter, but the price was so reasonable I got CGTrader to create all models of the 5 scooters on the store”.

When asked about his experience-sharing with other business decision-makers solving similar challenges, Charlie suggests following industry leaders’ references as this was the way he got to know about CGTrader:

“Sometimes you just have to have blind faith, and in a world where there are so many rip-off companies and many self-proclaimed experts, it is a scary decision. I love Shopify’s Expert programme that puts business owners in touch with companies they consider experts in their field. So in this case it was not scary.

I was very impressed with CGTrader, they certainly deserve the title “experts”. Working together could not have been an easier process. If we ever expand the range of our products, working with CGTrader on the new 3D models for AR preview will be a priority”.
