DESCRIPTION

The Lütjens-class of destroyers was a class of three ships built by the US for West Germany during the late 60s, entering service in 1969 and 1970.

The units were based on the Charles F Adams class which the US Navy had developed and were named Lütjens, Mölders and Rommel, meaning high ranking men of the German armed forces during WW2. They were designed to escort carrier task forces, yet Germany did some changes on the design and used them as air defence and communication. Several changes were made, most notably the antennas, radar and weaponry were improved. This included the change of the conventional funnels to so called macks, being the most obvious change on the ships. During the career, several modernisations were done, installing newer weaponry and sensors.

All three units were taken out of service in the early 2000s, with only Mölders remaining as a museum ship in Wilhelmshaven, Germany. They were replaced by the new Sachsen-class of frigates.

Note: This model is recommended to be used in the 1/3000 scale. The models itself arent scaled, the scale table is down below.

1/4000: 3,3cm or 1.29in

1/3000: 4,4cm or 1.73in

1/2000: 6,6cm or 2.59in

For self calculation: The Mölders is roughly 134m or 440ft long..

The model is intended to be used with little supports as possible, yet some are recommended around the funnels and the large antennas on top of them, as well as the weaponry. I recommend using a resin printer for this. Up and Downsclaling might be possible, yet I dont know to what extend.
