great job dude. im just wondering if there is a way to make this work outside element mode, as i dont always have my models merged together in a single object. even the assign multimaterial button only works inside element mode

Save the .mse in C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2018\scripts. Make a new script: https://gist.github.com/anonymous/9cd6f0e4b9e333ef6e9716d1419a00a4 Save in the same location as above and name 'ColorIDAssignProMacro.ms'. In Max, load the .ms and evaluate it. Customize User Interface, Category is ColorIDAssign. Now you have the ability to add to quad, shortcut, button, etc. Cheers! Thanks for the script!
