Designed in 1951, the Calvert table is one of the earliest examples of flat-packed furniture, reflecting a societal change in the expectations of our homes and furnishings.A prime example of Kramer's vision, it features a straightforward and functional design that is easily inverted and collapsed. Comprised of two intersecting plywood sheets and a top measuring 1.2cm thick, each component is cut out of a single sheet. While simplistic in form, the angular cut outs of the base reveal a sculptural quality. Celebrating Ferdinand Kramer's 120th birthday, the Calvert chess edition is based on a cardboard picnic version Kramer originally proposed for Coca-Cola in 1951.
