DESCRIPTION

This commemorative bust is in honour of the late great H.R Giger.
Want to give your printer a workout? Have a resin based printer and want to show what it can do? (I wish i did! :))
The original model, created by the extremely and unearthly talented Sean Kennedy in Lightwave more than a decade ago. I will not divulge how many hours I spent working on this mesh to make it printable, but after H.R Giger passed away on the 13th of May I said to myself, ok.. what is the absolute, most awesome, most detailed Alien model I can think of/make/find and I came across seans model I collected as I said nearly a decade ago, maybe even longer than that.
The model was fraught with holes. It was originally designed as an animation backdrop centrepiece, and omg.. lightwave sure packs some data into it's files. When you are dealing with a mesh that when processed from Lightwaves format, cracks well over 100mb after conversion you can imagine the CPU crunching going on and I have to say, out of all my prints, Ed-209, darth... any of them, this is probably the most detailed mesh I have ever tried to print and slicing takes at least 5 mins for the base and middle.
I decided to make the plaque seperate so it can be placed all around no matter which angle you have the model rotated to.
This is a work in progress as in, there is more being added to this. I am yet to print the rest so I am reluctant to post it because of the complexity of the models. Many test prints were harmed in the making of this!
The plans are making a BookEnd with the Giger wall and this as the side piece, I also have made a giant bust of just the head and the test print is printing out now. I could not increase the resolution on the full scale model, so to make a really detailed bust from this model required me cutting out the pilot and resculpting him, which was such a pain, and still is... taken literally a month.
**I apologize in advance for the blatant pasting of my name on the images, but I found a few of my images ripped on other sites, completely unrelated with no credit, so better than a gigantic watermark, I put a logo in them now. It's not like I want my name in lights, but it's like "Hey.. I printed that! It wasn't done on that machine.. and it took me 500 goes before I got it printable... don't use it for advertising your cheap kickstarter!"
