Description

Our national and international success is based on our 25 years Know How in designing and producing high quality 2 – stroke engines. The 39 years of industrial experience of our designer had been realized in our new range of engines representing the latest state of the art of 2-stroke technology. Having this in mind a new generation of mufflers had to be developed suitable to handle the higher degree of saturation and process of combustion efficiency. 3W developed these new types of mufflers. Now 3W- Modellmotoren GmbH is capable to deliver complete solutions of propulsion Systems.

1994 / 1996 Most popular and spectacular manoeuvre at the TOC : Torque Roll. Most used engine 3W-120B2

1995 Start of the new i-serie representing a new cylinder and piston technology. First engines : 3W-70i and 3W-75i

1996 Steve Stricker wins the TOC with 3W-160B4 build in his Extra with a wing span of 3400mm. Development and production of : 3W-50i , 3W78iB2 and 3W-100iB2.

1997 3W received the patent no. 4408908 for its 2-stroke 3-cylinder radial engine 3W-105STR31998 Our cooperation of many years with Quique Somenzinileads to the development of the: QS-Engine serie. Quique Somenzini wins the TOC with his new 3W-150iB2 QS engine with 4 real transfer ports. Start with the development and production of : 3W-240iB2 opposed twin.

1998 Start of 3W´s own airplane model serie. These models are developed in cooperation with the world best pilots and are produced exclusively for 3W. The design of these airplane models are influenced by Peter Weinhold´s long time experience and knowledge of having build over 500 various models. The finishing touch is given by doing intensive flight test done by International Top Pilots like Wolfgang and Roland Matt. Both gentlemen are looking back at a long time experience in design and flying on top level.

1999 Quique Somenzini does the hat trick and wins again the TOC with 3W-150iB2 QS. Development of a flexible drive system for para glider : 3W-240iB2 Para.

2001 Development and production of : 3W-200iB2

2002 Patent application in Europe and USA for a new muffler system. Development and production of a new 4-cylinder flat : 3W-212iB4. The 3rd. generation of ignitions is released. The programmable on board micro processor allows a special auto timing for our engines.

Technical specifications : 6,0V operation voltage, voltage range : 4,8V – 8,4 V

Temperature range : -40°C / + 65°C

Out put signal standard for connecting 3W´s digital RPM meter

2003 Design finished for the following engines : 3W-342iB2 , 2-cylinder flat; 3W-684iB4 , 4-cylinder flat, 3W-256 STR / 4-T , 5 cylinder radial, 4-stroke. Models : First prototypes of airplane models YAK 54 / 3050mm and Votec 322 / 3000mm are in the air for intensive test flying.

2004 At present 3W produces engines between : 1.46 and 41.74 cu.in. Twenty two different cylinder capacities are combined to forty seven different variations. Development and production of : 3W-28i / 3W-56iB2 and 3W-112iB4. Development of airplane model : PITTS S 12, wing span 3000mm.

2005 In the meantime 16 different airplane models are produced. Wing span range : 2000mm and 3950mm. To meet the special requirements of our international competition aerobatic pilots we deliver certain models in a special light Competition Version. This means the fuselage is made in composite using Kevlar – Honeycombs . All rudders have holes to save weight. Reinforcements are done by using carbon material.

2006 3W arranged the 1st. Rookie meeting to promote youngsters. This opportunity was taken to look for a new sponsor pilot for our team. Tim Stadler had been selected and since this year he is part of our team of sponsored pilots. Development and production of : 3W-275xiB2

2009 Development and production of : 3W-55xi. Development and production of : 3W-210xiB2 TS HFE

3W is the only Model Engine Manufacturer producing 4-cylinder and 6-cylinder 2-stroke flat engines. Competitors copied our engines and ignitions but with limited success. These plagiarisms are based on our technology of our 3W-80B2 and 3W-120B2 which were developed in 1986 and 1988.Our current engine technology is generations way off from this old technology. In a continues process our R &D department optimises the running characteristics, power and reliability.

3W is proud in being able to offer excellent flying airplane models well engineered. Useful accessories, mainly designed by 3W and produced for 3W complete the program.

Ignition System

3W-ignition systems and electronic components are designed and produced according to Industry Standards. Modern RISC –processor technology as well as selected components and a comprehensive Quality Control are the heard of a reliable system. The modellers benefit from specifications which are usually done for the industry. The ignition systems are laid out for a wide temperature range of : -40°C / +65°C. Suitable timing curves with automatic timing are standard with all 3W-engines as well as a strict quality control of all electronic parts. Several developments are tested momentarily and will set a new standard for 3W-Modellmotoren GmbH respectively power, reliability and life time.
