For many years, he watched the entrance to San Juan Bay and protected the city of marine attacks. The "nose" is a term used to refer to a piece of land or rock that serves to observe a place. This fort is part of San Juan National Historic Site and was declared a World Heritage Site by the United Nations in 1983. Today, the Morro is one of the major tourist attractions in Puerto Rico, with exhibits of items from the time of colonization used by Spaniards, Indians and Africans. Other exhibits show ship models and historical data for the period. Tourists and visitors enjoy flying kites (kites) around the castle. About two million visitors explore the fort every year.
