Unfortunatelly copycats existed and will continue to exist at all times. Of course it's not cool to see when your work is being shamelessly copied and especially if it's put on sale for significantly lower price than yours. All we can do is to try to compete with quality.

I also have found shameless copycat, who copied one of my model to the smallest details, even presentation is very similar. It's not nice, but i won't loose my sleep over it.

My model: https://www.cgtrader.com/3d-models/household/other/electrical-installation-set
Copycat's model: https://www.cgtrader.com/3d-models/electronics/other/switches-and-sockets-4c9e6f57-b910-4436-bb8e-7155ebef3956

Electricity sockets ? Really ? Damn, this is pathetic, there is a million different electricity sockets... so he/she just copied your design, I don't understand this type of peoples who are capable to model and then waist their time by copying other peoples ideas instead of creating their own.

I've looked at his profile more closely and it looks he has a habit of borowing someone else's work, retopologize it and publish as his own.

Pathetic indeed. I also noticed some familiar models. Maybe we should have some kind of 'wall of shame' for such guys ...

There's no way he's making money with prices like that, thankfully. You can't sell all your models for $3 a think you'll make any measurable income from this. I just don't get it.

Hmm. I've compared both models. I honestly don't see any real issue here. The labels don't look identical, and they are both very similar to many generic coffee cup label templates that are out there by the dozen for photoshop. Looking at the geometry, I don't really see any identical vertices outside of the standard cylinder that is common in most 3d modeling packages for creating the base shape of any cup model. I really can't say he stole anything here, my friend.

I haven't looked at any of his other models, but I don't see anything to worry about regarding this particular product.

Yeah, I looked carefully, the models differs in meshes. Mine more complicated, not just a cylinder, more like a real paper cup. Ok, at least (oz / ml) mistakes in his model makes me funny))

I see what you mean there. I hadn't noticed that mistake is visible on both. I think he may have seen your design and just assumed you made the correct calculations? I'm not sure it is enough to call it "theft", but now that you point out that error, he must have copied your design layout. That makes me very disappointed. There are literally hundreds of coffee cup label templates out there for free, why bother copying someone else's 3d product? I assume you created your design from scratch?

He definitely copied your label design with a few modifications. That is frustrating for sure.

Some people will model something from a real life example and I can see how two modelers will have the same product for sale. I try to research on here and other sites to make sure my model is different than anyone else's, but when it's something generic(like my water fountain that you can find at any park), it's impossible not to run into a similar item. I'm currently making a large scene, and I have no doubt that items like faucets, toilet, etc. will run into a twin, because I researched these from Home Depot, etc. To some extent, we all mimic what we see, otherwise no one would recognize the items in your room or want to by them, unless they're making an alien civilization or alternate universe.

Yes, there will always be similar models based on the same products in the real world. If the models are simple enough, then they will probably be modeled and unwrapped very similarly as well. However, there really is no way for two products to be identical. Uv Islands, vertex order, textures, and of course renders will always be different unless the models were stolen.

If the model in question is replica of the real world thing of course it will be similar, but for God sake don't render that model in the same way that someone else is already done it. Be creative, make own scene, camera angles etc.

My main concern was not about the model that very generic but label design, thankfully he did not copied my logo too xD. I think we need to patent our design nowdays

Yes, I don't think it was a "theft", the models looks very different.
But why copying other's designs?
I've created my own design, from scratch.
I'm using it on other my models.

It reminds me of "Abibas" and other fake cheap labels.. xD

Yeah. the thing is, that coffee logo is very "generic". You did a great job on your cup and label, so please do not take offense. I just looked up "Coffee Symbol" on Google, and some of the very first images that come up are strikingly similar to your design, as well as his design. There might be a dozen or so coffee cup symbols out there like those. So the only suspect thing is really that he has the same measurement weights on his design that you have on yours, including the error in oz to ml translation. I understand your frustration for sure, but unfortunately, there isn't much that could be done there. It might be funny if you change the amounts to the correct translation, and then he would have the wrong one but you have the right one.
