3d project - clients trick

Discussion started by tonnynevel

Hi there

Wants to share experience with one client.

For 6 years working on freelance and more then 200 projects on different websites, i meet different people with different ways how to cheat you.

Last client was quite cunning, i can't say that he really cheat me, but his logic quite interesting.

He create private project and invite there artists that he think can do his model. Price on this model 1/2 of usual price that you get but model was interesting for me.

His message was:

"im willing to pay $XX for this project if I like what I see then we can talk prices for future projects I am very much open to that theory
will it be ok if you start and I pay after I see progress being so im new to this website and I really don't want to keep wasting money everytime I pay I always receive half way, you don't have to send me anything until I pay I just want to atleast see progress"

So looked like normal thing, you will not send anything, so he can't cheat you, but you are not alone on this project :) You and other 20 guys showing "progress" to him, and he select one who the best and then 19 other freelancers left with nothing.

After showing progress he will not say it's good or bad, because he just comparing your work with other artists. When i hiring on project and work with freelancer we discuss everything, what needs to improve or what part of model weird or i'm just saying all ok and we move forward. With this guy nothing he will say "ok, alright, i got image, i will look etc"

After 50% of work i write him that i will not continue working without hiring, as i'm kindly agree to start modelling, he ask me strange question like "Is it really 3d model? Is it not fake 3d scan? I'm about to hire you".

I was glad with result of my model, so i just continue working without idea in mind that he will pay me for it, i just write him that if he will not hire i'm publish model here. He still not answer 24 hours.. will see :)

I'm not usually reading forums, but maybe someone right now working with Dolce Gabbana sneekers for this guy.. write me please we are in same boat :D

Thanks for reading, be care and value your time!

If anyone requests of me to make a model, I simply make it and then post it here and send them a link. If they buy it, fine, if they don't then eventually someone else will.

@SimonTGriffiths. Same. Don't do one-on-one projects, but if someone contacts me wanting something, and I think it will be a good product, I make it a product and upload and they can either buy it or not. As you said, someone will. Project work has never been worth the extra hassle, IMO. Just my experience.

Just finish the model and publish and sell it here, price it high for him in the beginning then later lower it down once you break even.
