DESCRIPTION

40 Wall St. is a 927ft (283m) tall skyscraper in New York City. The building, originally called the Manhattan Company Building, was constructed on the same plot in Lower Manhattan that its namesake company had operated upon since 1799. 40 Wall St was designed by architect H. Craig Severance with assistance and consulting from Yasuo Matsui and Shreve & Lamb in a style that fuses Art Deco and Gothic architectural motifs.Famously, this building competed, in an official skyscraper race, with the Chrysler Building, only to lose out in the end when architectures secretly constructed a larger spire to out-soar its Wall St rival. Enhancing the skyscraper's notoriety, Donald Trump purchased the building and began renovations in the 1995. While taller buildings have gone up across the city, 40 Wall St remains one of the tallest, most recognizable buildings on the New York skyline.

Because 40 Wall St shares walls on the lower floors with other buildings on the block (30 Wall St, the short beige building and 44 Wall St, the medium height brick building), the model of 40 Wall St by itself would have several blank faces that would normally be covered. Because many people might find this to spoil the appearance of the builiding, the 2 adjecent buildings mentioned are included in the model. It is possible to print all 3 buildings separately or all in the same mesh.Because this building is particularly tall and may exceed the maximum print volume of most consumer 3D printers, the building may be printed in 2 halves (glued together roughly halfway up the building at the setback where the main tower portions begins to rise) or all in one piece.

The STL files included and their descriptions are as follows:

  • 40WallCompleteBase.STL - The bottom half of 40 Wall St + 30 and 44 Wall St attached
  • 40WallStandaloneBase.STL - The bottom half of only 40 Wall St
  • 40WallTower.STL - The tower portion of the building. This model is to be glued onto either of the 2 models listed above
  • 40WallCompleteFull.STL - The full height of 40 Wall St + 30 and 44 Wall St attached. The entire model in one piece.
  • 40WallStandaloneFull.STL - The full height of only 40 Wall St

(Note: This model was originally uploaded in 2019, but has been redone from scratch in November of 2021 to improve accuracy and detail.)
