Historical description of the coin: This is a Greek 20 drachmas coin from 1982.The obverse (left side) features a classical Greek temple with columns (likely the Parthenon) and the inscription ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΗ ΔΗΜΟΚΡΑΤΙΑ (Hellenic Republic) around the top edge. Below the temple is the denomination ΔΡΑΧΜΕΣ 20 (20 Drachmas) along with the year 1982.The reverse (right side) shows a profile portrait of Pericles, the renowned Athenian statesman from ancient Greece who led Athens during its Golden Age (5th century BCE). He is depicted wearing a Corinthian helmet pushed up on his head. The inscription ΠΕΡΙΚΛΗΣ (Pericles) appears on the left side of the portrait.The drachma was Greece's currency from ancient times until 2002, when it was replaced by the euro. This particular coin was part of the third modern drachma series that circulated from 1954 to 2002. The coin appears to be made of a copper-nickel alloy, giving it its distinctive silver-bronze appearance.
