Name: Lepidodendron Aculeatum

Period: Carboniferous to the late Triassic. 360 to 205 million years ago.

This Variation: This is a Low Poly model. A High Poly version is also available.

Notes: Extinct tree-sized, tree-like plant from the Carboniferous Period to the late Triassic. Though superficially it resembled a tree, this plant was most closely related to modern quillworts, meaning it wasn't a true tree. As it grew its central stem eventually split into branches, and then each branch further split into more as the plant continued to mature; further branching occurred until the plant reached full maturity. At the ends of its branches were oval-shaped cones. As the plant grew it shed its lower leaves which resulted in the scar-pattern found on its stem and branches giving it its name of scale tree. Fossils have been found extensively throughout the world suggesting it had a global reach.

  12. Young -- 8,896 polygons, 14,177 vertices, 28.72m tall. Smaller plant, fully mature but still growing.
  13. Growing -- 2,860 polygons, 4,554 vertices, 11.62m tall. Plant not yet mature, some half way through its growing cycle.
  14. Immature -- 82 polygons, 145 vertices, 3.73m tall. Very small and young plant.
  15. Forming -- 56 polygons, 85 vertices, 1.69m tall. Extremely young and small but taking on its adult shape.
  16. Sapling -- 38 polygons, 63 vertices, 56.38cm tall. Recently sprouted.
