Peugeot Type 5 1894

Production 1893-1896. Only 14 were produced because customers preferred the larger cars on offer from Peugeot. It inherited the face-to-face four-seater arrangement from horse-drawn carriages. Rear engine rear-wheel drive. In 1894 the Paris daily Le Petit Journal organized a contest of horseless carriages from Paris to Rouen. It was the first automobile contest in the world. Out of a field of 21 competitors, Louis Rigoulot won the 128 km race in a Peugeot Type 5.
