De Havilland DH98 Mosquito known as the “Wooden Wonder” or the “Mossie,” the fast and versatile Mosquito served first as a light, unarmed bomber, photo recon, and then as fighter-bomber & night fighter.
This, is the most numerous variant, the F.B. MkVI fighter-bomber. Using non strategic materials, its molded spruce & balsa ply construction made the Mosquito light and strong. Its twin Merlin engines gave it sufficient speed to outrun most fighters at low to medium altitudes, and its heavy armament and bomb load made it a formidable fighter-bomber, especially in precision low level attacks.
