USS Monitor Ironclad

USS Monitor Ironclad 3D model

Description

This model is built with a lot of detail is ready for your animation work. It has an animateable turret and guns. Cannon shot are also included in the files. It is fully textured and very detailed with canvas covering, railings, gratings and details on the ship.

This ironclad ship was built to aid the Union Naval forces blockading the Southern ports to fend off Southern built Ironclad ships being built to attack and break blockade fleets.

The Monitor class was a simple design with a single turret in the center of the main deck carrying two large cannon. The turret could rotate to any angle and attack an enemy in any direction. This was a completely new concept at the time. The ship was also built structurally of wood timbers and skin but had a thick iron clad plating attached to cover exposed wood above the water line and protect it from cannon shot and ball from enemy vessels. However this design also made the Monitor float only 15 inches out of the water, top heavy and very hard to steer.
