Step 1

  1. Add a circle and position it at the corner of the door.
  2. Add a rigid body to it and set the type to passive

Step 2

  1. Add an empty and position it at the same place as the circle
  2. Add a rigid body constraint to it.
  3. Change the rigid body type from fixed to generic spring
  4. In the settings of the rigid body check enabled and disable the other settings.
  5. Under limits, enable them all and set them all to 0
  6. Set the Z Angle limits to -85° and 85°. This controls the angle boundary's that the door can possibly swing within.
  7. Under objects assign the first to the door and the second to the circle that we added in step 1
  8. Under angular enable the z angle and change the stiffness to 60 and the damping to 3

Step 3

  1. Make sure the scale has been set by clicking CTRL A and the scale
  2. Add a rigid body to the door and make sure dynamic is enabled and animated is disabled.
  3. Under collision change the shape to mesh.

Step 5

  1. Add a sphere and position it in front of the door a little way making sure that its inline with the edge of the door that will open and keyframe the location
  2. Move forward to frame 20 and reposition it behind the door and add another keyframe for the location
  3. Add a rigid body to the ball and enable dynamic and animated. (If animated is not enabled your ball will just fall and not move to the positions keyframed)

If you change the size of the ball you will need to apply the scale using CTRL A
