DESCRIPTION

Greetings, Crafters, Printers, & Designers! Astrium Animus here, back after a long haitus! And so I'll start off my return with something relatively simple: a library study desk!

Whenever I needed a change of scenery, to get away from the family, or needed more research material for new designs and ideas, I would take a drive to one of the public libraries in the city. And while some libraries were more spacious and well-stocked than others, one thing they all have in common are the desks: with or without dividers, large or small, they are are all so bland! A library is supposed to not only provide literature and information, but also help stimulate the mind and have people enjoy learning and studying, and that should also extend to the furniture. many desks are simply utilitarian and simple, and those which have dividers have simple, undecorated slabs of wood or are transluscent walls of plastic, with the table itself usually being made of a wood composite with a timber-style veneer layer, if even that.

For my design, the table base is made of solid wood with a dark varnish (ironically it uses the wood veneer texture) with a stainless steel base with a brass polish to weigh it down. The table itself is composed of a light colored wood (represented with a lighter shade of cherry wood) with faux marble tiles for the table's surface. Since most individuals who visit a library own a laptop or tablet. the heat given off after extended periods of use will not damage or deform the tiles as it would a wood surface. Finally the rounded edges of the table and the divider are made of different shades of bamboo, the dividers in particular decorated with different geometric styles. This was done due to noticing that some people, me included, would look away from our computer screens or reading materials to give our eyes a break, and have nothing else to look at but veneer (or plastic). This was all done to make libraries less dull and more unique.

This is the first model I have posted since my haitus. At the moment there are other designs that are yet to be completed, but worry not! More models to arrive sooner rather than later...
