Men-at-arms equipped with brigandines and large bulwarks were formidable fighters in the Middle Ages. The brigandine, a jacket reinforced with riveted metal plates, offered flexible protection while allowing good mobility on the battlefield. The bulwark, a large shield often made of wood reinforced with metal, served to protect the entire body, particularly useful for line weapons and infantrymen in defensive formation. These warriors played a crucial role during sieges and pitched battles, combining solid defense and the ability to support infantry in the face of enemy charges.
