Remy is an anthropomorphic mouse with natural gifts, extremely developed sense of smell and taste. Inspired by his idol, recently deceased chef Auguste Gusteau, Remy dreams of becoming a chef. When his herd was forced to leave the shelter due to being discovered by the landlady, Remy was separated from the herd and ended up in the sewers of Paris. He hallucinated Gusteau's spirit and followed his advice to go outside and look around, eventually stopping at the roof window overlooking the kitchen of Gusteau's restaurant.
