Warfarin (Formula: C19H16O4; CAS: 81-81-2; Systematic name: (RS)-4-Hydroxy-3-(3-oxo-1-phenylbutyl)- 2_H_-chromen-2-one), sold under the trade name Coumadin, is an anticoagulant. It is used to treat blood clots and to prevent stroke. The common side effect is bleeding. Warfarin was commercially developed as a rat poison.
