A pituitary rongeur is a specialized surgical instrument used to grasp, remove, and debride soft tissue and small fragments of bone, most commonly in neurosurgical and spinal procedures. It is frequently employed during transsphenoidal surgery to excise pituitary adenomas and other sellar or parasellar lesions, allowing the surgeon to selectively remove abnormal tissue while preserving surrounding critical structures. In spinal surgery, pituitary rongeurs are used to remove herniated disc material, ligament, or other soft tissue from confined spaces within the spinal canal. The instrument’s long, slender shaft and small, cupped jaws provide precise access and controlled tissue removal in deep or narrow operative fields where visibility and maneuverability are limited. The length of this pituitary rongeur is 8 inches. This model is provided as a complete assembly or as subcomponents so that it can be articulated and animated if desired. An IK rig works best to get the springs to move smoothly.
