Ogboni “Edan” bronze figurative Bell
Female figurative bell known as “Edan Ogboni.” It originates from the Yoruba people of Nigeria and is used by the Ogboni, a secretive inner circle within Yoruba society. The Ogboni members are responsible for maintaining law and order in their community, including the power to sentence criminals to death and influence the selection and burial of the town’s king. The male and female Edan Ogboni Bell represents the god “Edan” in physical form and serves as a symbol of membership within the cult. It symbolizes the oath of absolute secrecy taken by new members upon joining the Ogboni.
