Finely carved wooden abstract sculpture represents an Edo woman, showcasing the artistic excellence of the Igbesanmwan guild of Benin City. The figure features a dignified posture, adorned with traditional hairstyles and possibly coral bead accessories, reflecting the cultural aesthetics and societal roles of women in the Benin Kingdom. The Igbesanmwan, a hereditary guild of ivory and wood carvers established in the 13th century, were renowned for creating artworks for the Oba (king) and the royal court.
