Ancient mounted elephant with 3 LOD - Nepal Heritage

Ancient mounted elephant with 3 LOD - Nepal Heritage Low-poly 3D model

Description

Located in patan durbar square, built and renovated in 1600s-1700S by many generations of malla kings, a pair of these sculptures are facing towards group of fountains called Dhungedharas, an intricately carved stone waterways through which water flows uninterrupted from underground sources. Elephant were still extensively used up until some 50 years ago by royals and rulers of Nepal. They were used for hunting and in wars. In the sculpture it's stepping on it's enemy implying that it's being used in a war.

Elephant riding culture is still in use today in few National parks in nepal for sightseeing but the popularity of elephant riding is decreasing due to rising awareness among people about animal rights and animal abuses as domesticated elephants lives barbaric lives. ** Some areas are missing, it’s not an issue with the model, only that some parts of the sculpture are damaged due to the earthquake of 2015 in Nepal. It is likely that some falling stones from the surrounding temples did break hands of the man and the piece of the elephant’ top head.**

Model created in reality capture.
