From France, the hybrid quickly entered cultivation in England and other parts of Europe, and also North America. Since then, plant breeders in many countries have continued to develop this plant, and over a hundred named horticultural varieties are now known. It is one of the most popular and widespread magnolias planted today. Growing to heights of up to 30 ft, the flowers bloom in early spring among bare branches, bursting open in colorful splendor as the rest of the trees remain naked.
