The BT-7 was the last of the famous Soviet “cavalry tanks,” produced between 1935 and 1940, with over 5,700 units built. Powered by a Mikulin M-17T gasoline engine, a copy of the BMW VI, it delivered up to 450 hp, allowing it to reach speeds of 86 km/h on roads and 50 km/h off-road. Its Christie suspension gave it impressive mobility across various terrains.
The standard version was equipped with a 45 mm 20-K anti-tank gun and a coaxial DT machine gun. Its armor ranged from 6 to 20 mm on the hull and 10 to 15 mm on the turret. Though relatively light, the sloped welded late turret design offered improved protection.
The BT-7 stands as a compact feat of engineering: fast, agile, and designed to outflank the enemy. It proved effective in battles like Khalkhin Gol in 1939, but limited armor and a flammable engine rendered it obsolete with the arrival of the T-34 in 1940.
This model is a realistic and accurate version of the BT-7M design, based in original Soviet technical drawings, museum photographs and 3D scans. It is suitable for rendering and 3D printing up to a 1:6 model scale.
